Absolutely Negative Productions is the banner under which actor and filmmaker Sebastian Kim produces and develops work.
Sebastian’s early cinematic favorites included swashbuckling adventures like “Captain Blood” and the dark comedy of “Kind Hearts and Coronets.” His interests were further fueled by the music videos of Spike Jonze, punk rock, and studying film history at Bowdoin College. His experiences as a professional child actor and multicultural upbringing (his father is originally from Seoul, Korea and his mother is Irish-American by way of Brooklyn) helped form the foundation of his perspective as a filmmaker.
In 2021, he became the assistant to the Oscar-winning producer Anthony Katagas. During his time as an assistant, Sebastian drew inspiration from Anthony’s collaborators, including Josh and Benny Safdie, David O. Russell, Michael Almereyda, and James Gray. While working with Katagas, Sebastian received an Associate Producer credit on the feature film "Armageddon Time" which was nominated for the Palme d'Or at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.
“Slumber Party” is Sebastian’s directorial debut in the narrative short film category. His previous directing credits include the 2019 documentary short “Winslow Homer: The Man Himself” and a 2022 music video for the song “Reception Desk” by Them Airs, which was an official selection of the London Music Video Festival. As a writer, he received a Best Screenplay nomination at the 2022 Ignite Film Festival for the short film “Doug Ever After,” directed by Anderson Tram and Executive Produced by Patty Jenkins. He is also the Producer of the short film “When We Were Old” directed by Liz Giamatti which premiered at the 2024 Sun Valley Film Festival.
Sebastian seeks to locate new sources of authentic connection and energy by embracing elements of insight, humor, and absurdity in cinematic works that are immersive and provocative.
